The mod completely dampens out the 4k-5k peak. It extends the bass, and on a hd6xx it will extend the treble IMO.

Are you talking about the pinna gain peak at 3.5k? Because neither my set nor any others I've seen have a measured 4-5k peak.

Huh. Looks like you might have an outlier set. Most (measured) sets seem to peak somewhere between 3.2k and 3.8k, and it isn't a resonance peak. AFAIK the only major resonance on the HD 600 is somewhere around 100Hz.

As I understand it, the newer models are a bit different. However the resonance was present in my late 2021 6xx. Mod removes it and was tune'd specifically with that newer model 6xx.

I tried the 620s today and was severely disappointed. The bass was weak, and felt like it lacked dynamics, and overall felt more boxed in than the HD600. The isolation also felt pretty minimal for a closed back.

Sounds like you didn't get a good seal, as this is the opposite of most feedback so far.

Maybe, but didint feel like it? I even pressed the cups a bit to make sure the sound didint fluctuate. I will have to come back another time and demo them again.

. If you like big, full bass that hits very low, I would make sure you have at least one other pair of headphones to supplement the HD 600. But IMO you generally don't need as much bass as you think you do.

I also have the momentum 4's and they do supply very good sub bass.

But outside of those deep, deep sub-bass hits, most of the track's bass content is actually much higher and will be plenty audible. Often mid and upper bass is good at giving the impression of being lower than it is, so it sounds like plenty

And I do agree here. Some tracks give an oomph in the mid and higher bass and act as if it's sub bass

Most dynamic drivers have one in the low end. Maybe you’re referring to what I’d call harmonics (usually subsequent peaks that are harmonics of the pinna gain peak)?

Perhaps we are on about different things.
I was referring to certain units which seem to be unique by deviation from what is norm.

There was a guy on YouTube with his "unicorn" unit which differed from other units and was less peaky and bass extended more.

Thats what I thought of when you use the term outlier set.

Had a chance to meet the Custom Cans UK team as I was down in Cheltenham with the olde ball and chain.

They were nice enough to show me their workshop even though I'm sure they're quite busy with their workload.

It was great to meet the chief and their product designer and social media person. The home of the hd600 donuts.

I did tell them I was super curious about their headphone they are working on, and luckily enough they were cool to let me see one of their prototypes.

I won't really speak on it too much out of respect of their intellectual property secrets.

But looks like they are making a customizable/ modifiable headphone with the ability to have different size drivers. Open back model.

It's a cool business, and I gave them a salute for their dedication to the custom audio world.

So a big shout-out to custom cans. I can give my hearty recommendation for anyone who is thinking of dealing with them.

Also planted some seeds in the missus so she won't bark too loud when I add to the collection

Although not very fond of my headphone interests, she enjoyed the trip. XD
