I’ve been saying the Vali 3 is a fantastic bargain for a while now, in fact when I ordered mine directly from Schiit the woman told me I was like the 12th or 13th customer to buy the Vali 3. If it’s the 13th it’s fine as I don’t believe in bad luck………………………..I hope.
I was just wondering if anybody had gone down the 6DJ8 road.
On this point, does anybody smarter than me know what the max plate voltage for 6dj8s are? From what I remember it was only round 100v in the first place
They tend to be good but are massively overhyped, especially here on head-fi.
My 396a is as good as they get, from a comparison with other 396a's. I never listen to my 396a because it doesn't compete with a specific 6n3p-e, a specific Mullard 6922 etc. After 60+ years individual tubes have aged in different ways and sound different. If you want your amp to sound it's best, you have to get a bunch and find the best sounding one. That's a much better use of your $100 than jumping on a hype train.
If you're looking to buy a tube, a warning. Several of the tubes that others are showing in this thread are obvious fakes. 60 year old tubes do not have freshly stenciled labels. Read up on ebay scams and you will understand why known scammers have 100% ratings.
If you've already bought a tube and are happy with it, that's great. Enjoy!
Vali 3 is handling, with embarassingly high panache and skill, a special high-impedance (300 ohms) headphone. Which one? Nitsch/JAR 600, a modified HD-600.
