Brian Blade and the Fellowship Band is a great pick for someone new to jazz. There is a folk-like melody to many of their songs. Love them.

Me, too. Brian is involved in a ton of cool music and his drumming is very soulful, emotional.Brian Blade and the Fellowship Band is a great pick for someone new to jazz. There is a folk-like melody to many of their songs. Love them.
Here he is with Chris Potter and Scott Colley on bass.

Blade is also on Potter’s new album with Brad Mehldau and John Patituchi, which is excellent

I have enjoyed Simon's playing for years. That age cannot be correct. I remember him playing in Bobby Watson's band Horizon in the late '80s. OK, hold on, I'll google it... He is 54. Still younger than I thought. All jazz fans should check him out, truly a great pianist.

How about some Pat Metheny ... the vocalists are Cuong Vu and Richard Bona.

For today, my focus was on jazz drumming ... this is Steve Jordan. The bassist is Anthony Jackson.

Great stuff. Interestingly, Steve Jordan is also the new drummer for the Rolling Stones.

Interesting. I learnt about Steve when he played on the Blues Brothers album "Briefcase Full of Blues." He's also featured in this cool documentary about jazz fusion drummers ... from my pro-drummer pal Gony.
FYI, I only made it 1/2 way through this video, so far, because I keep stopping to acquire the music from Qobuz. Most of it is out there. One that isn't out there is an album called "Apple Juice" by Tom Scott and the LA Express. It was a live show in Japan, and I found the CD in Japan via Amazon. It's on the way to my house ... features the then 22-yr old bassist Marcus Miller.
