As a former audio mastering engineer
i was quite skeptical about recabling my akg k 701
but i read some good positive comments about this mod.
So i sent my cans to ken at alo audio.
Well his work is excellent!!! truly top notch!!!!
This man really deserves all the money he ask for his products.
I'm listening right now to a dvd audio with jazz music recorded at 24 bit 96 khz
and the sound of the cans has really really improved!!!
No presence of any placebo effect let me tell you.
The harsness in the mid-high frequency is gone.
The bass frequencies come out more easily and in a
very controlled and tight way.The sound has become
even more neutral and natural.
Transients are a little bit faster. If there's something wrong
in the recording you'll immediately discover it.
I can clearly admit that listening to music through these cans
has become really a pleasure and ken's work is outstanding.

That's the way akg k 701 should sound with the stock cable.

i think the cryo treat will be the future in audio cable.

For now i can say that alo audio mod for akg k 701 is
higly recommended!!!

cheers

Francesco

yeah thanks!!

if you still think that the k 701 can lack in some way
in bass frequencies response download this plugin
for foobar :

foobar2000 3rd party components

it's sort of crossfeed filter and simulates the listening
of 2 speaker through headphones

you get a much better overall response on the bass range
like listening through speakers.
A real joy!

try it

ps: this is a much better one :

How's the bulkiness & flexibilty of the 18AWG Jena Cable? I thought recables are normally done w/the 22AWG. Thanks.

Ken does great work. Unfortunately even he couldn't get my 701's to be tolerable to my ears.

To the OP, glad they've worked out for you.

I'm considering one of these ALO modded AKG's as my first AKG experience. What is it about the AKG's that you don't like. In what way did the ALO mod not make it work out for you?

Maybe not the best place to post this, but I picked some AKG702s recently.

Ken, do you have cables for these?

I'll have to get over to your site soon and check.

DC

Hi doctorcilantro,

Yes this cable is a nice improvement on off the stock one. You can see the cable HERE
Which is sold with the new 702, but I can sell just the cable.

I am searching for my first portable kit. How well can an Rx Amp drive the AKG 701's?
