Could be - let's see how Moondrop responds.

There should be a status bar or similar at the top of the screen showing the bit depth and sampling rate to ensure we are achieving bit perfect hi-res playback. All decent DAPs have this feature.

Also, I think the level of noise on the 3.5mm output is unacceptable for a device marketed towards hifi customers.

However, the balanced output is very good. @Audiosentinel made an excellent video (see above).

In other testing news:

I tried Niagara Launcher instead of the stock launcher and it works ok but the gesture and navigation buttons don't function.

Google Maps still doesn't work after activating google services and using the new firmware.

My impression after a week of using the device is that it is a below average 3.5mm audio player, fair to middling 4.4mm audio player and quite frustrating to use as a phone.
I found the only way to keep gestures working is you can't restart the phone. You start with there launcher switch to whichever you want set it as default close everything and go from there.

Yes, but it's hard not to restart the phone as the battery totally drains to 0% every time it remains unused....

I feel this is the sort of thing that should be handed out to 100 users for vigorous User Acceptance Testing before wider release.

It's a great idea, sadly the implementation is less than half acceptable.

I was really intent on buying this piece of tech, but with the recent developments, it's unable to src bypass. What does @MOONDROP have to say about this? They've been particularly absent and silent.

I'll probably just stick to my Hiby R4 for now.
Yes, I was also intending to buy this phone. The lack of information, verified or acknowledged and backed by Moondrop is somewhat telling. Makes me nervous at best.
Was really hoping to escape the Apple Valley…

Continue to using this phone after a few weeks. Have not experienced any bugs and the flexibility of this unit is really sweet.

Nice to hear. Who is your carrier? And is the issue of the src bypass evident or missing? Thx!

I made the comparison between the fiio m23 and the moondrop with same configuration and condition (uapp, mentawai, jack 4.4mm..) no real differences in my ears, only the price... just on dsd no bypass , but the sound is really correct and pretty good.

Feelings are subjective. This is the objective conclusion I have drawn, for your reference.

For a Phone, i think the performance is actually pretty good, as said in my short review. Its not comparable to a DAP, thats true, but it serves a different purpose so thats not totally fair. Neither in terms of price, nor in terms of usability.

The only reason i am not using the MIAD01 as my phone is due to the lack of an felica chip, so i can not use it for public transport

Regarding that claim... We do have to say something.

Here's some frequency measurements of MIAD-01 playing a local white noise file with some common streaming software.

As you can see from the FFT spectrum graph, by Nyquist theorem NetEase and QQ music is bypassing the 48khz src , while Hiby and Poweramp is having some problem(the graph goes down on 24khz, which is half the sampling freq).

For Hiby music and poweramp, they were suffering an SRC, probably because of built in limiter etc.

But that's still in normal range. NetEase and QQ use phone's hires signal path by default(One of the features of newer Android, developer can just utilize it)
Since Hiby and Poweramp are having problem, we did some research on them, and It turns out Poweramp use the original signal path(OpenSL ES) by default.

We adjusted the Poweramp settings to Hires Output and test Poweramp again, we can notice a dramatic improvement in test result:

Then we choose a competitor product that claims to bypass SRC globally:
Test result of aftermarket software on that device:

Hiby software:

Long story short:
Our conclusion is that the competitor product only bypasses SRC on the built in Hiby software either. If a third party software is not utilizing HiRes signal path, It will suffer from SRC.

Our stance on this matter is that Despite Android had added Hires support, It is up to the software developer to utilize that output option, NOT the hardware. If the software itself doesn’t specifically assign it to hires signal path, it will suffer SRC. Please select a software that utilizes the Hires audio channel.

Yup, we'll bite that bullet, in order to add the inline mic, the 3.5 is pretty dumb as we have to ground the mic... Please use the 4.4 balanced output.
