At the moment I am looking for a good dongle or portable amp for a 7hz timeless in combination with an iphone. Planar iems need more voltage and the iphone limits the power it gives to the dongle so I want to have one with own batteries. I think a topping g5 is not necessary. I think it makes more sense with over ears. So I think the Q11 or Q3s could be a good choice. Is that correct? If yes: I can't decide between Q3s and Q11. The Q11 has got more power (but someone said here it is quiter), but the Q3s offers 2,5 mm balanced, bass and you can turn off charging. Better the Q11 for 85-90 € or the Q3s for 99 €?

Go for the Q3 MQA! The Q11 goes less loud ( with my planars ) then the Q3! When I mailed Fiio about that because the Q11 was advertised having more power I got a story about gain and chipsets… yeah all good but in the end the Q3 goes louder!
Also the Q3 has ( according to Fiio ) a better chipset.

Yes, the output volume is not only depended by the output power level. Due to individual preferences, you could read the professional reviews and comparisons, as well as try out by yourself before choosing the suitable one for yourself.
Best regards

Yes. Thats what I said. You can read “professional” reviews or read what a real user has to say. Or both.Dear friend,

To bad you need to read forums or reviews to find out which sounds louder. Isn’t there a way to add the volume output a device has?

If you would just need to add the volume level without consider about the sound quality and distortion, maybe you could try this app in your mobile phone directly: https://apkpure.com/cn/volume-booster-goodev/com.goodev.volume.booster
Best regards

Better get the Q3 MQA if you have power demanding headphones or IEM’s…Dear friends, here is my review of the FiiO Q11.

As stated earlier in this thread, in my experience the volume of the Q3 makes my headphones go louder. Especially with my power demanding HE400SE. Despite the marketing that states the Q11 has higher output the Q3 makes my HE400SE sound louder. This is due to the chipset and other factors Fiio says ( or something like that, Fiio’s response to my statement is found earlier in this thread). I bought the Q11 but send it back when I noticed the HE400SE sounds louder connected to the Q3 than to the Q11. It’s for you to decide if you want to spend the extra 70,- for the Q3. I would.

Maybe there is a difference in power handling and the Q3 can provide more current while the Q11 more voltage so they will suit different types of load.Better get the Q3 MQA if you have power demanding headphones or IEM’s…

Yeah, I guess you’re right…Maybe there is a difference in power handling and the Q3 can provide more current while the Q11 more voltage so they will suit different types of load.
@passie42
BTW, have you tried to listen to your headphones with both Q11 and Q3 set to maximum?
Volume knobs fully turned clockwise.

Well, if power is what you need ( for let’s say a HiFiMan, Denon, Sennheiser or Beyer Dynamic headphone ) than you made a mistake. If you bought them to power a IEM ( not plannar ) or something not power hungry like a Meze 99 than you have no problem.do you tested? because i bouth the q11
