Camerton Audio Binom-ER — Flagship Isodynamic (planar-magnetic) Headphones
Jun 5, 2022 at 4:53 PM Post #16 of 64
Tbh, I was looking forward to hearing people's impressions from the Munich High End, but I don't see anything so far. The Headphones Show just released their vid, but no mention of Camerton (if I'm not mistaken).

I don't think that many people are aware of Camerton's existence and that probably is the reason why we don't see it in all the post-show feedback already out there. My bet is that the 6moons review is going to be the first solid read about these cans we'll get.

The design looks like another copycat like always. Never interesting and always meh.

Legendary Sansui SS-100 from the 1970.
I bet the SS-100 will sound 10x better than this 2022 headphone :p

I can surely see the similarities in terms of the ear-cup design. I am not going to play the protector here, but if you look at the majority of headphones, they usually are a copy or "inspired" by some other headphone. Fully original designs are so rare nowadays.

However, I do think it is disrespectful to say:
I bet the SS-100 will sound 10x better than this 2022 headphone :p
without listening to Camerton's headphone in the first place.

I'm sure the manufacturer worked hard to make the headphone come to life, and if I'm not mistaken, the driver that the Binom-ER is using is an in-house developed driver.

Yes, everyone is shady.
And the listening is a bet.
You guys got to be careful with the "hard at work," "come to life," and so forth stuff.

Look what Sansui published 40 years ago. They have some nice fancy jargon in this pamphlet.
Same schiit...

I just think it's so unfair to not give something a chance before listening to it.

It makes me wonder why the masses let the true shady stuff slide and follow hype trains but are so closed-minded to new stuff. Like, people will allow big bs by big companies slide, but will judge something new before they even get to hear it.

Yes, I agree, don't believe marketing bs because there are people who get paid to make that look very official and convincing. But come on, I think this is completely out of line. I can say that words are words, and that there are quite a lot of them with little to no meaning being used in marketing in the audiophile space.

@protoss don't take my comments personally, I know you are a great guy, but please know that words have weight. Making a product come to life isn't cheap, especially for independent and small companies like Camerton. Oleh Lizohub's driver design have been proved to be exceptional in the speaker field, and this is something that many people that listened to the Binom-1 have said, so I think there is every reason to believe that the Binom-ER maintains those high standards. The MSRP is high, and people are yet to determine whether the performance meets the standards present at that price range.

Of course, I myself am not going to call these headphones great before getting a chance to listen to them. Equally so, I am not going to call them crap.

My approach is to have no expectations and let the product speak for itself. I could care less about the marketing and what others say. I consider myself someone who is qualified to make the judgement by himself, so that's exactly what I do. Sometimes I find myself going against the grain, and people don't like that, but at the end of the day, what's the most important to me is that I express my honest opinion without thinking what anyone else is going to say about it.

I myself have quite a few questions about the Binom-ER and I hope to have a chance to speak with Oleh to get the answers, but other than that, I am not going to jump to any conclusions.

Once again, please don't take my comment personally, because I have nothing against you.

@voja

I agree with you. No problem. I will try this headphone one day.
I just wanted to point out the design.

Visually it's similar, that's true, but there's more. Camerton's monitor speaker is a purist widebander product (just one flat driver per enclosure with no crossovers or any damping materials) that was crazy on bass output in Munich several years ago. Normally to get any bass from a single full-range transducer you would need a horn loading and large volume, so an enclosure way bigger than a small monitor box. Camerton's speakers do what previously was considered impossible and it's exciting to think how that company's headphones (also based on its own drivers) will sound like.

Just to inform everyone interested, the 6moons.com review is almost done it seems. The gist is that Camerton Binom-ER sounds thicker than Susvara and focuses on tone, at least that's what I gather from that publication at this point.

Seems likely more comparable to Solitaire and not on the same technical level as the rest.
