OK, it was break in. I've run it with some music and white noise and it's settling down. It still has a presentation with that characteristic (more caustic upper registers) compared to my Sennheisers which are more mellow, but it has much better bass too (probably the closed design helping here). Needs to settle down some more and break in but is turning into a great set of headphones.

I might be in the minority but I have the Game zero open back and i liked those much more than the MMX300. I've owned both just for the record.
