EL38's and EL39s? You can buy them in a one stop shop. Same UK seller. EL38 & EL39 Be aware that the glue on the EL39's can be delicate due to age! Check for lose bases & top caps and repair with superglue gel if necessary. Just apply so masking tape around areas you want to keep clean. There...- Toonartist

Aegis DIY Tube Headphone Amplifier
I can get away with the EL38s with the Meze Elites for most genres but I use the rectifier to help warm, thicken the sound… or lighten if using warmer EL37 & EL39 tubes. More recently, I’ve also found the ECC35 are very good at adding weight and warmth to brighter tube combinations while...- Toonartist

The last shot of the two amps together before I took it on a trip this morning… plus one of the seldom seen back 😀 I so wanted to add @L0rdGwyn name to it to acknowledge the amp design… none of us would be here talking about it if it hadn’t been for his vision 🙏- Toonartist

It feels so funny seeing it somewhere other than my office  So glad you like it and look forward to hear your thoughts on the Aegis sound. Those RCA Red Base 5691s go really well with the colour scheme 😀👍🏻 Makes the Envy look small😳 Edit... just no fiddling with the anode cables...- Toonartist

I really like that tube. I no longer have the Nirvana that I used it with but I’ve still kept a pair of them just in case. Going back to the Aegis thread, I do feel the ECC35 are similar but with better imaging… well, they’re better overall but they have that same Mullard sound!- Toonartist

I think a some Aegis owners may have been focusing on other tubes and hadn’t realised the 807 & vt60 were an option… read that as I hadn’t 🤔 I order the adapter a week a go so no doubt I’ll have a dabble with some 807s etc in the near future! There are a lot of good options out there, it’s easy...- Toonartist

lol… yeah. I love the 5691s and made sure I had 2 NOS pairs due to the FOMO 😂 Funnily, just done the same with the ECC35s. Both perfect for different genres. So with 4 pairs between them I feel a little less panicky… but I may have to dabble again … just in case 😂- Toonartist

That’s unfortunate 😞 The guy I bought the EL39 from said he’d replace it if I wasn’t able to repair it. It was a pair of backups so I needed to test for a few hours just to be sure they’re ok. The lesson learned was to check the tops before use now and preserve as much of the wire as possible...- Toonartist

Exactly. That happened when I was testing a new backup EL39. The cap came off the tube but there was enough wire on the tube to create a hook. I then soldered a skinny solid core wire to it. Cleaned the glass and cap and used some superglue gel to glue the cap back to the tube after threading...- Toonartist
