ZMF Aegis Official Thread

I’m planning on doing a review of the Aegis,
including thoughts on preamping from the Decware. Do you know if there would be any benefit to have matching paired rectifiers in them since they both can use 5U4G?

Not really, no, I'd just use whatever you think sounds good for each one individually.

Stock is a Sovtek GZ34 / 5AR4. I'll make a little info guide in my reserved post on the first page and link it tomorrow with rectifier info.

Most rectifiers other than GZ34 / 5AR4 should be okay with low power tubes. GZ32 / 5V4 is also lowish voltage drop so the tubes could still be biased on the hotter side but within spec. Pretty much all other rectifiers are going to have higher voltage drops and will work well with low power tubes, which includes 5U4, 5R4, 5Y3 and their equivalents. If you're considering something and aren't sure feel free to PM me.
Would it make sense to put together a tube compatibility spreadsheet for the Aegis, similar to what @Zachik did for the GOTL?
Probably a lot of work initially, but it would probably save a lot of time in the long term.

Yeah it probably would, I'll look at putting it together, good idea.

I can add a field to say which rectifiers are good to use for the lower powered stuff too. Also gives me an excuse to buy more tubes for research purposes 😎

Good to know, I thought 5881 qualify as low power output tubes.

Despite their small size, they're actually 6L6 types, so they can take a lot of bias.

Yeah, those are occasionally used as quads in 100W guitar amps.

I would prefer not to break the bank, but I'm open to options in any of those price brackets.
2 more suggestions: Blue Jeans Cable is highly recommended by many, and high value. Both are made in USA.

I have personal experience with Snake Oil cables, very high quality and sound good. The Taipan is the better cable.

I also recommend the Snake Oil Taipans. I have Blue Jeans RCAs as well and though they are great cables, I prefer the Snake Oil.
