iBasso DX180 Got your music? Enjoy the concert! Released and ready to play. Manual download on the 1st page.
Why in high gain? None of my IEM's get close to needing more than low. 40'ish on low gain is loud for me.- M3NTAL

Booting is rather slow and not smooth for me. The animation is like loading a .gif on a 56.6k dial-up modem. It is responsive once up and running though.- M3NTAL

The Watercooler -- Impressions, philosophical discussion and general banter. Index on first page. All welcome.
So, I'm looking at the 64 Audio, FiR, and Jodi-Vac as an IEM maintenance tool. Anyone have a suggestions? I'm trying to stay around the ~100 range.- M3NTAL

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up
Do the kits return back to homebase smelling like the Southwest? We've had some Zazzy times enjoy the Schiit kit. I was able to play with Magni Unity and Syn (amongst other Schiit Greatest Hits) and enjoyed the simplicity and sound of the Magni Unity. If I were to go back to the beginning...- M3NTAL

DX180 Now Available at Bloom Audio. The Next Generation of iBasso Has Arrived.
Thank you Bloom - Shipped, Safe, Secure, and Skittled - Now to learn Android again. Currently scanning in my 1TB card and playing with settings. Any recommendations for applications? I saw Firefox being mentioned with uBlock or similar. I'd rather use Chrome - I'll check into plugins for that too.- M3NTAL

Campfire Chat - Official Campfire Audio 2024 Thread!
When will the Cascades hit the warehouse? :D Are they being sold new anymore?? One of the headphones that kind of got away from me. The price was a bit much to swallow at time of release - not that they aren't worth it, just wasn't in the market for a closed back at the time.- M3NTAL

AKG's New Flagship IEM - N5005
You've got that right. The N5005 is very enjoyable - I'm running the mid-boost like quite a few here are. Just enough to keep it fun without getting too far off from a pleasant FR. Sounds like you got a great deal! Enjoy and forget. The N5005 gets rotation amongst some of the other top players...- M3NTAL

AXEL GRELL HEADPHONE
Good morning Phil, We'll keep each other up to date on the OAE1 - I'm sure of it as we've been trying out similar headphones lately. I'm not going back and researching, but you might be right also on the x-feed. I had them for a while, but the HD800/HD650 just kind of kicked most dynamics out...- M3NTAL

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up
I've noticed there are quite a few folks from Arizona in here. Y'all need to make it to a meet-up Schiit has hooked us up with their Kit for quite a few meets now. "Us oldtime head-fi'ers" always love more tech-nerds to chat with. I'm sure most of the AZ crew is very savvy with electronics...- M3NTAL

AXEL GRELL HEADPHONE
The Sony MA-900 also had a passive filter. People debated over it's negative and positive effects. Some people removed them, but were then left with a thinner sounding headphone - then you are putting a passive filter back in line if you use EQ. It doesn't 'sound' like the OAE1 is the most...- M3NTAL

THE COMPOSER OPEN BACK FLAGSHIP by AUSTRIAN AUDIO
I mean, you're not wrong - tonally they are kind of like a 009 with a very impressive bass presentation. Timbre is where I disagree. The HiFiMAN HE series and Stax 009 both have more clarity / resolution. The Composer is a quick DD driver, but it isn't as fast as the electrostatic and planar...- M3NTAL

HISENIOR AUDIO Discussion Thread
No logo? I just received mine - they are tough to get a good seal with the stock blue tips. I've switched to Xelastic 2 and solved my seal problem. Early impressions after listening to the Senn. IE900 most of the day - the Mega doesn't have the same technical chops, but it has an agreeable...- M3NTAL

Black Star and Black Friday Deals!
The Black Star is a wonderful IEM that is versatile with many genres. The mid-range is where these shine - the bass and treble are exciting, yet not overly sharp/unnatural. They are pretty close to the Solaris I dreamt of - slightly less edgy, but holographic - great stereo imaging.- M3NTAL

It kinda bums me out that a lot of people use these nice DAPs into another dongle. It was more common when the iPod had the 30-pin line-out, but I feel DAPs have improved from then - so why the dang dongles :D Also bums me that we are comparing dongles to DAPs. :(- M3NTAL

Cayin N3Ultra: an Entry-level Portable DAP that Delivers a Complete Vacuum Tube Audio Experience
Great points - Didn't realize the OI was that high on the M5U. I'd like a DAP with decent eq (g.eq or peq) and nothing 'gimped' on the SE / BAL. outputs. Are there any DAPs that is a full FPGA system for their DAC? Would be nice to have firmware options that could add features at later...- M3NTAL
