I don't know about comparisons to other versions, DACs. The Gumby I had, bought new in May 2017, definitely matched the first description above. It's a cognac DAC compared to all those brandy DACs :-)

Technically, all the speakers in an HT setup are supposed to be "full range." I think that means down to 30-40Hz? In that sense, your 5 (8) speakers are perfect! The subwoofer in an HT setup is a separate channel so you'd still need a sub. The specs say it should play up to 120Hz and it's up...
