    Mjolnir Audio electrostatic amps

I'm curious as to how a Carbon mates better with the 009s better than a BHSE or KBSSHV. What's the word on the street?

    Mjolnir Audio electrostatic amps

I own a KGDT, have been running using it daily for the past several weeks; very happy with it.  Using it with the SZ3 Stax cans.   I have no point of comparison to a KGST, KGSSHV and BHSE or in using an SZ1. Maybe they are better (in some way). But my guess is, that there are significant...

    stax srm717/srm727-11

Hi Duncan, thanks forms sharing your mod. I think I will indeed try it at some point.

    stax srm717/srm727-11

Hi Duncan, this is very encouraging news. With DRPs help, I think its very easy to understand your variation to the NFB or "Spritzer mod is all about.   The power supply changes are much less clear to me. It is obvious that there is need for improvement in the PS (as you've stated several...

    stax srm717/srm727-11

In effect, increasing the value to 1 Meg Ohm does what? Increase negative feedback?

    This is getting interesting.

    stax srm717/srm727-11

Quote:   Duncan1, this is where you lose me. What do you mean here by "TOP" end? Thanks.   P.S. You can send a private message to DRP by moving your mouse cursor over his name, you should see a drop-down appear saying: Private PM. You can communicate directly this way without...

    stax srm717/srm727-11

So beefing up the power supply makes sense to me. But I'm a little confused here as to your variation-twist to the Spritzer mod. Come again as to why the additional resistors are needed? Can you post a photo of what this looks like?

    stax srm717/srm727-11

Duncan1, you seem to have said a lot here, but its nearly impossible to follow. With no spaces, line or paragraph breaks... It makes for very difficult reading!   Can you please summarize the changes you've made, and maybe your insight in modding the 727 will be better understood by...

    The Stax thread (New)

Its funny, I had read numerous mentions about the mod, but I was entirely left with the impression it was about increasing voltage swing.    Thank-you gentlemen, that clarifies things.

    The Stax thread (New)

Quote:   Thank-you, but now I'm confused in understanding what is really at play with the 007T mod. I thought the tube swap for 6S4A's was to improve voltage swing.

    The Stax thread (New)

Quote:   I'm not trying thread crap here, but I would like to come back to this topic...   I'm curious about the voltage swing of the modified SRM-727 vs the modified 007T (using 6S4A tubes).   Which amp can swing more?

Breaking news! Chinese company acquires Stax..

Breaking news! Chinese company acquires Stax..

Quote: Well, I think many people are over that mind-block. China is the manufacturing hub of the world.   However, the Chinese are very weak in building their own brands.    ESL headphones has never been a high-volume business driven by manufacturing innovation. Stax has been a...

Breaking news! Chinese company acquires Stax..

There are some clouds in this story.   1) From what I can tell, Edifier has no experience in high end audio. Case in point: When Clarion bought McIntosh back in the 90s, this was so-so marriage at best. OK, that may not happen this time, the people at Edifier may be more in tune with the...

Stax SR-407s Are in The House

Interesting comment that these are not as "organic" as the HE-6. I would gather that this would be even more so of a difference compared to the LCD-2's sound signature.   Looks as though Stax have taken a step in the right direction. An A/B to the 507 would be nice one day, but my guess, is...

Stax SR-407s Are in The House

vs.SR-507   vs.HE-6   Please, once you've had some time to sense the flavor. Thanks.   My guess, is that except for the differences attributable to the ear cushions and cable, the 507 is pretty much the same.

    AKG K240 Monitor: Capable?

I can't understand how people can say the 240DF is "more detailed" than the 240M, when as mentioned, they are essentially the same driver just tweaked for diffuse equalization. The DF indeed has a flatter response, which resulted me in not liking them initially. But then my ears got attuned...

    Driving AKG K240DF 600ohm for $150?

Sounding fine and sounding great are two different things. I used to own a pair, and they tended to sound best via integrated amps (that tend to drive their headphone jack via the speaker output) believe it or not. They need that extra power to make them sound alive and dynamic IMO...

EMP enough juice for the K340?

I think this is all well and good. As Robert De Niro says in his movies (he even parodies himself sometimes): It is what it is. It is. The EMP and EMS are clearly fine amps by what people have said about them, which is why I wanted one. But ... my K340s are hard to drive. I know this...

EMP enough juice for the K340?

So my takeaway is ... The EMP is marginal with the K340. Will be OK at its very limits, but with bass heavy music will be stretched and may run out of steam. May be fine, but not necessarily the best match over the long term. Thanks everyone, that's why I value this board. Kees, I'm...
