New Focal Utopia for 2022: impressions

Fair enough, but please keep an open mind. Unless we have actual data, the failure rate might actually be lower than industry average. It could be more, we just don't know do we?

New Focal Utopia for 2022: impressions

I agree with uplate. You are all drawing conclusions without data to backup your point. If you do not have actual data you can't draw conclusions. The absence of data is not evidence, it is just an unknown. I would be shocked if there was not failures for the Sennheiser lineup.

THE COMPOSER OPEN BACK FLAGSHIP by AUSTRIAN AUDIO

Well, if those two devices were intentionally designed to color the sound, sure, that would make sense. I would bet that in properly conducted, level matched, multiple trial blind listening tests, the differences would vanish. Maybe not, but there is absolutely no reason on Earth that a...

THE COMPOSER OPEN BACK FLAGSHIP by AUSTRIAN AUDIO

Nobody needs a stationary setup. There are many portables capable of audible transparancy. That doesn't mean that some, perhaps many people will still want a stationary setup, but it is silliness to think they are necessary. I should modify this though to indicate that there very well could...

Any old fart head-fi'ers still around?

Great to see members from way back when still checking in from time to time. I was a lurker from probably about 2004 until I joined in 2011 I think it was. Anyway, good to see folks still around.

iFi audio iDSD Signature - The saga continues!

You totally do need BT, everyone does, even if they don't realize it :D But in all seriousness, there is absolutely no appreciable sound quality difference with modern BT implementations. In the past, maybe BT was audibly compromised, but not for a number of years now. I will guarantee you...

I find the tubes quite beautiful to look at. Industrial art really. Saying that, the cost and the fact that they expire makes me glad that I got out of tubes before the rolling bug hit me hard. Must be an expensive endeavor. Rewarding though I'm sure.

Curious. When you go to a store, why would you want to cancel the noise. Isn't that noise the sound of the world?

Well, sort of. Yes an amp can be pushed to audible distortion, but that is really no where near as common as people often suggest. Again, if you are equalizing and there is lots of draw on the amp, but you have unused power it won't help. Note that I said if the amp is operating without audible...

    Sony MDR-Z7M2 Headphone Thread

Sorry, but the idea that extra power in the amp makes for better performance is pure audio mythology. If the power is unused, it has zero influence because it is unused. As long as the amp operates without audible distortion and provides enough power for the dynamic swings your playback volume...

Anyone interested in an amateur 10-way cheap chi-fi IEM shootout/review?

It will still be worth the effort and probably a lot of fun for you to do. Just be as systematic and consistent in the testing approach as you can. I'll certainly enjoy the read.

When the differences are slight and subtle as you describe, how can you be sure there is even any difference at all? When it is considered that audio memory is extremely imprecise, and it must take at least a moderate amount of time to switch out tubes, wouldn't that introduce a fair amount of...

Refreshing to read common sense that changing the internal wiring material has no appreciable effect on sound. It is hard to read posts from DIY enthusiasts who swear that they hear a difference once they use silver wiring in their amps. Clearly that is not even possible. Anyway, just really...

Watches - another passion of ours, it seems...post your pics!

I will have pictures soon hopefully of my newest watch. I have purchased a used in excellent condition, what I feel is a very smart looking, Revue Thommen Heritage with a green dial. It has a decent Sellita SW 200-1 movement (common in many Swiss watches). It will be arriving from Pennsylvania...

    Whisky (or Whiskey) Fi

Gotcha. I find many Whiskey's and bourbon too sweet as well. Despite having a friend with a very refined Scotch palette and always very good Scotch, I rarely enjoy it. Saying that I do prefer, if I'm to be honest, mixing well crafted Whiskey with ginger ale. Canada Dry of course. If you mix...

Totally get that where local file storage is required. Mind you, with built in storage increasing all the time, pretty soon this will be a moot point and even phones we are upgrading will have enough room for most users.

This is why I personally feel DAPs are a poor investment. Unless the buyer is comfortable with the knowledge that they may only get 5 years of viable use from the device, if streaming and third party software packages are critical to how they use the device. If the buyer is comfortable with the...

A DAP for wireless makes no sense anyway. Well, little sense. A phone will do just fine. Better actually. Although I know people say they don't like getting calls on their music device. Rather than trade in my last phone when I upgraded I just turned my previous phone into my streamer so I have...

Bowers and Wilkins PX8 Wireless Discussion

You are absolutely never going to hear a difference between the competent codecs, and you certainly would never hear any difference if you bought a DAP. Better idea is to use a phone, which you are doing. People make all of these assumptions about what they THINK they can hear and spend all...
