They are different. Gaea is more a niche recommendation than Pilgrim. For my collection, I choose Gaea rather than Pilgrim since it’s more lively and impactful, with larger perceived soundstage. But there is no mincing words here, Gaea is an aggressive IEM especially if you fit it shallowly.

It’s mostly wet (more lower mid) and no air (subdue upper mid) to me.

Review by 'o0genesis0o' on item 'AFUL Explorer'

If you have ever talked about IEMs with me, you would likely notice two points: (1) I have a soft spot for the IEM manufacturer AFUL, and (2) I constantly refresh the news to wait for the release of the mythical AFUL flagship IEM - Cantor. So, needless to say, I was a bit disappointed when...

Looking for sounstage, imaging, warm, smooth IEM's

Have a look at AFUL Explorer and Intuaura Splendor II. Both have L shaped signature with thicker bass, natural midrange, less upper midrange glare and good treble extension.

I tried. They sound awesome (with or without Pilgrim)

    NEW HiBy R4

I also use R3II as a source for my W4 when I sit down and listen. Battery seems to last roughly as long as onboard DAC and amp. Running FC6 from a R3II or R4 seems like an interesting option. A bit different flavour once in a while

How dare you, sir? It’s apparently the best IEM in the whole world, beating everything even HE-1 I thought Dunu has their own factory? I remember watching an interview and factory tour when the EST112 was released.

I also tested the DSP dongle with R3II. Surprisingly, as a soundstage addict geek, I prefer the non-DSP sound. Richer and more character. The DSP signature sounds … generic somehow.

Ey, somehow I missed this part. I’m giving up on the uppermost echelons of the market after trying the Annihilator generously loaned by my friend. I mean it’s literally one of the best IEMs in the world right now no matter how you slice and dice it, and it sounds wonderful, but idk, it does...

Hifigo asked me to share these in the review. Since I’m still writing, might as well drop these here first I’m in Australia. I order directly from Hifigo because it’s the quickest, and they agree to send to local post office for me. Regarding the tips, the stock ones are okay, but I use Tri...

I also found that the Explorer performs at roughly the same technical performance with P5, but with better bass, and I also prefer the tuning of Explorer. It’s still not as technical as P8, though I prefer its tuning over P8.

Not really incoherence for me. The DD used here has the same snappy response that sounds like BA woofers (but with great subbass and texture), so it follows the upper frequencies well. My major problem is that it pushes the whole stage forward. Heck, it does not have that “wrap around” effect...

Yeah, it’s frustrating how some “cheaper” sets are so close yet still not there, especially when they pack genuinely innovative tech inside. For example, I’m reviewing the Pilgrim at the moment. It’s snappy, it’s detailed, it layers well, it’s tuned very well, yadda yadda. But the soundstage...

Price tag? J/k, I get what you mean. In my case, it’s the soundstage imaging and resolution. Few budget Chifi can do those beyond “okay”

Collaboration Once upon a time, the concept of a collaboration between a manufacturer and a reviewer to build an In-Ear Monitor (IEM) was a rare occurrence and a promising sign of a breakthrough in sonic performance and price-to-value ratio. However, collaborations have become much more common...

Not just better, different. This IEM (pilgrim) is not a low-res and cheaper anni. It’s just tuned differently.

The stage could be quite nice with this one. No early ear gain + that dip around 5kHz + some meat on the bone at the lower mid are good signs. but, that upper midrange amount might ruin everything. I think it is at least 12dB if not more. Expect a “simgot 2023” target (not the harman, the...

    Elysian Pilgrim

Replace Zaku with Anni 2023 😂 But I enjoy this Pilgrim IEM quite a bit. One of the finest mid-fi at the moment, IMHO. I don’t usually listen to songs (aka ones with voices), but Lee changes my mind with this one. Flat, non-annoying midrange with excellent vocals, both male and female ones...

Nah, different types, IMHO. There are many ways to be safe. Moondrop and Simgot are “safe” in the sense that there is no surprised, (they are harman or diffused field with bass boost). This one is “safe” because Lee tunes the midrange with right with less ear gain. But he left a small peak...
