Speaking of Tung-Sol 6550s, I got an amazing deal on a weird pair from eBay. They are marked Mullard IEC KT88, but are clearly Tung-Sols. But, for sub $100 for the pair, I'm thrilled.- AnyDave

80'ish is a lot safer for long-term listening. If you look that NIOSH charts, if you're at 91dB, it's only recommended to listen at that level for a couple of hours. At 81 dB, you can listen all day.- AnyDave

I'll let Zach answer that one about the embroidery. Is that a cloth dustcover for $35? If so, that's a good price. Do you have a link? I may get some custom covers made for my guitar pedal boards.- AnyDave

I used a silk cloth on my turntable for years. It was definitely an improvement over open air, but it didn't keep out dust very effectively overall. It looked nice, though.- AnyDave

Cutouts for cables is pretty easy. I did that on my turntable. How tall does everybody want it? Some tubes + adapters are taller than the transformers.- AnyDave

If it's just a straight dust cover box, it'll be super easy. If it is more of a cage and has ventilation and cutouts, that takes more time.- AnyDave

I could design on in Illustrator and release it as a favor to the community if folks want. I've made dust covers in the past and have been very happy with the results. Basically the process would be: 1.) I would make an Illustrator File 2.) You (or anybody else) would have to order the...- AnyDave

To clarify: 1.) Yes, the ZMF Aegis does not use the same transformers as the DIY version. They are custom wound transformers. 2.) It is indeed very difficult to hear the differences side-by-side. We have brought both versions to shows so that folks can listen for themselves. I have both...- AnyDave

Yeah, and that's been one of the delays for me. It's a much more significant investment due to that.- AnyDave

I would really like to add an X9000 to the collection at some point. I don't currently have any stats, so there will need to be an investment other than the headphones, but I see it happening, just not sure when.- AnyDave

Unfortunately, because of the way these are produced, they are built only in batches of a singular color. We may consider changing the color for future batches, but we have no immediate plans to do so. The prototype green ones were fun, but the overall feedback we received was that the black...- AnyDave

For me, it all comes down to the execution of the design. I've seen noisy, cluttered, messy PTP amps as well as extremely neat and beautifully wired PTP. I've also seen well-designed PCB amps and poorly designed PCB amps. I'm not sure one is better than the other if done well.- AnyDave

I use the same thing on my Focals. The only thing I do differently is I rotate the band so that the zipper is on the rear edge. That way, it doesn't leave as much of an impression on the Focal strap.- AnyDave

7% is a fairly atrocious failure rate on an electrical component. And the fact that some died in situ does not inspire confidence. If I ran Jupiter, I would want to know this info.
