Unveiled: Meet the HD 620S
Based on what Eric said, a cable that is compatible with HD 560S ought to also be compatible with HD 620S. I've been happy with every cable I got from Lunashops, but I haven't used their HD 560S cables, and I certainly can't say it will fit an HD 620S. If you want to wait to find out, then I can...- Dr. Cube

There are 64 steps in the volume control. I believe this is 1.25 dB per step, and that's what it sounds like listening to it. The steps are small, but definitely noticeable. You might want to play around with a software volume control set up for 1.25 dB steps to make sure it'll work for you...- Dr. Cube

Unveiled: Meet the HD 620S
I've just resigned myself to the state of affairs with earpads. It seems like most people actually are happy with imitation leather and velour and so on. For the most part, third-party pad makers will have something I'll like for a popular enough model, but they'll have to see demand for it and...- Dr. Cube

You do also get a remote control and NOS mode, but, then, those things haven't been enough to convince me to get the chassis upgrade either.- Dr. Cube

Unveiled: Meet the HD 620S
One of the most useful parts of his reviews is measuring frequency response with a sequence of different amplifier output impedances. Much more helpful than having a single nominal impedance number to use with the 1:8 guideline, you can actually see how amplifier output impedance affects the...- Dr. Cube

I lower the dust cover. I have some little Sorbothane triangles that help to isolate the dust cover from the plinth. After that, I can't hear it even at low speaker volume.- Dr. Cube

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up
Linux was not a public-sector project and has mainly been developed by contributions from private organizations. For a standard that originated in the public sector, the STIGs come to mind, but the corresponding CIS standards are at least as popular.- Dr. Cube

My experience is that having a cheap motor on the same circuit (which could be far away) is much worse than merely having the motor near a device.- Dr. Cube

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up
It's surprising to me to hear that there are music playback protocols using UDP. Latency is certainly very important for gaming, and it matters for video playback at least to the point that you can control synchronization by delaying the video to match the audio. But for simply listening to an...- Dr. Cube

I ordered a pair of RS2Xs a few weeks ago, because I really wanted to try a pair of wood Grados, preferring one of the models that people say has more bass. I was certain this would cause a pair of GH2s offered to ship from the US to appear on the classifieds in short order. Of course, it did...- Dr. Cube

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up
Something I've been wondering about is the impact of thermal cycle count on a vacuum tube filament, as opposed to tube operating hours. My thinking is that with a normal incandescent lamp, there's an estimated lifespan in hours, but we can also dramatically shorten the total number of operating...- Dr. Cube

It might look a little silly with a transformer sticking out the top of the case, sure... but it's not like you can stack anything on top of it already, because of the tubes. Or maybe it's too big in the wrong dimensions.- Dr. Cube

Schiit Audio Bifrost 2
My system has a Bifrost 2 plugged in through a Saga S, and one of the Saga S outputs goes to some powered monitors. The difference between active and passive modes in my system is mainly just that the active mode is louder. The Sys will probably sound perfectly fine in your system. Since it's...- Dr. Cube
